During the thunderstorms that regularly hit Pattaya, many old trees around town suffer severe damage or are felled by the strong winds and rain.
Having been hit by hundreds of rainstorms throughout its existence, an old tree that stood on the corner of Paniad Chang Soi 5/1 could not withstand the latest tempest early this week. The trunk snapped and fell onto the wall of the Redemptorist Center damaging it. Parts of the huge tree were left hanging precariously onto the street.
Pattaya City Hall’s environment department on June 16 sent engineers to cut down the tree and remove it for the safety of residents and motorists.
A city official said the trees would be crushed and used as fertilizer in the landscaping around town.
He also warned residents that old trees can be very dangerous during thunderstorms and are at risk of breaking and falling on homes and people who happen to be under them or even nearby.
Residents who think that their property is at risk of being in the path of a falling tree can call the city environment department 24 hours a day on 1337 and request for the tree to be removed.
