Sattahip rescue workers freed a dog that had been trapped in a sewer for weeks.
Sawang Rojanathamsathan Sattahip staffers responded to a road-construction site on Soi Yang Ngam July 3 where neighbors repeatedly reported barking coming from a sealed sewage tunnel.
Foreman Saman Pangpua, 56, said his crew was doing repairs and had closed off the mouth of the underground pipe weeks ago with steel mesh without knowing there was a dog inside.
Each day, people came out to respond to the barking, but couldn’t find the dog.
On this day, the skinny mutt, about three years old, was at the mesh. Rescuers used the construction crew’s crane to lift the sewer lid and climbed down.
The dog, however, was scared and bit one of its rescuers. The men took about 10 minutes to calm the canine and gain its trust. She was lifted to safety and fed. She then ran off into a nearby field.
