Pattaya will not stage any organized celebrations for HM the late King’s birthday, choosing instead to honor Father’s Day with respect and mourning.

City hall announced it will not host the traditional parade Dec. 5 from Beach Road to Bali Hai Pier nor the fireworks-punctuated ceremony at the jetty.

The day, however, still will be a holiday.

The private sector, however, is expected to host many of the same events as usual, including the ordination of 89 men as monks. The novices will have their heads shaved at a ceremony Dec. 2 at 9 p.m. and collect alms on the street as they return to Jittapawan Temple afterward.

The Sanctuary of Truth will also hold its five-faith prayer ceremony to honor His Majesty on Dec. 9. Merit-making and 500 monks will be present.
