A year after launching a project to make Pattaya the country’s second MICE city behind Bangkok, tourism officials complained that area hotels haven’t bothered to submit details about their properties to a central database.

Ornwara Korapin, Director of Tourism Promotion for Pattaya City, chaired a May 2 meeting at city hall with Pattaya tourism officials and executives to address the situation.

During the meeting, Jutha Tharachai, senior manager of domestic marketing promotion for the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, said hotels aren’t cooperating and are losing out on meetings, incentives, conventions, and expositions because they haven’t made the effort to fill out a simple form describing the accommodations, seminar rooms and other key facilities they offer.

The TCEB launched its Pattaya MICE City effort in March 2016 and has held numerous meetings, including one last month. But the lackadaisical attitude of the hotels is putting the entire project risk, Jutha said.
