A man arrested on Walking Street for allegedly demanding tourists buy illegal drugs defended himself with a novel excuse: the drugs are fake.

That didn’t stop Saichol Namjit, 26, from being arrested Jan. 16. He was charged with harassing tourists until the “drugs” seized from him – allegedly 22 methamphetamine tablets, a bag of crystal meth and two straws of ketamine – are tested.

The drugs certainly look real.

Saichol’s arrest came after tourists complained to police that a man was “forcing” them to buy his illegal drugs. Officers quickly found their man based on witness descriptions.

The suspect said the drugs were not meth nor ketamine and, in fact, were concoctions he whipped up himself using paracetamol to bilk tourists for cash.

The substances are being tested, with more charges certain if the drugs turn out to be real.
