Three hours of rain April 11 again wreaked havoc in Pattaya, especially for places with little or no active drainage.

Sukhumvit Road near Nong Yai Temple, North Pattaya Road, Pattaya Third Road, Central Road, South Road near Tukcom and Beach Road all were inundated. Smaller vehicles, homes, property, cars, and motorcycles all were damaged, with many vehicles stalled in the high water.

The storms also devastated the Nong Maikaen public-housing project on Soi Nernplabwan as mudslides swept through the neighborhood.

Top Banglamung and Nongprue officials toured the area after the rain stopped and found 14 homes were severely damaged by landslides and flooding. Six vehicles and four motorbikes were damaged there as well.

No one was injured.

Homeowner Dej Khamsri said a 20-meter cement wall that collapsed, and was rebuilt in a previous rainstorm, again broke, sending mud into his house.

Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit brought engineers from the Prevention and Mitigation Department to help homeowners with repairs. He said the owner of the property where the cement wall had been constructed to keep out a higher level of soil from a neighboring housing project, has been instructed to find a permanent solution, as well as pay compensation to those whose homes were damaged.

Engineers and soldiers from the 14th Military Circle excavated the landslide mud and took it away for disposal. Meanwhile, temporary homes were organized for residents while repairs are completed.

Also fortunate to escape injury were a 60-year-old woman her 4-year-old grandson. The residents of the Nong Maikaen development were stuck inside their home after mud from the wall inundated their house. They were rescued by a neighbor.

Local authorities and charities are supporting the residents of the Soi Nernplabwan project affected by the floods and landslides. Food, water and other needed items were donated while the organizations involved are helping clear the area so they can move back to their homes.
