A motorcyclist died and two others hurt when they were struck by a tour bus when the bus brakes reportedly failed.

Motorbike taxi driver Padet Wiengyangkung, 37, was crushed by the bus at the intersection of Pratamnak and 3rd Road under the overpass at the base of Pratamnak Hill July 25. Two other motorists were transported to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Bus driver Wongmanee Tontakaew, 44, was taken into custody following the accident.

Tour guide Alang Li Ja said the bus was carrying 14 Chinese tourists back from Pratamnak Hill’s observation point when, nearing a red light, Wongmanee shouted that the brakes weren’t working.

The bus plowed into several vehicles, a taxi and three motorbikes, at the intersection.
