The Ministry of Tourism and Sports warned about how human trafficking flourishes in popular tourist destinations at a seminar in Pattaya.
Kankura Haisakanen, a ministry policy analyst, and Pol. Lt. Gen. Sakorn Thongmunee, commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, were the lead speakers at the May 17 meeting at the Sunshine Garden Hotel
The forum attended by 100 tourism-industry executives and officials was one of four organized in Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, and Phuket to explain how and why human traffickers are drawn to tourist spots and exploit their victims by forcing them into prostitution, begging and other sectors.
The seminar stressed collaboration with welfare organizations and governmental agencies to curb sex trafficking in particular and improve Thailand’s world standing in battling human traffickers.
