A tourist was beaten unconscious over 700 baht by a Naklua beer-bar bouncer and nearby motorcycle-taxi drivers in what turned out to be a miscommunication issue.
The unidentified man – believed to be Russian in his mid-30s – was struck in the head by the bouncer and then set upon by up to five taxi drivers until he was left senseless and bleeding on the ground outside the VIP Beer Bar complex on Naklua Road Jan. 19. He was taken to Banglamung Hospital.
Witnesses said the victim was drinking beer at the Honey Bar and didn’t have money on hand to pay the 1,300 baht bill. He paid 600 baht and arranged with the staff to visit an ATM opposite the bar to pay the balance.
He was stopped by the security guard, however, and due to language problems the bouncer believed he was running out on the bill and mayhem ensued.
