Seventeen years into the millennium, the Pattaya Tourist Police have joined the 21st century, moving its paper-based criminal records and reports online.
Local Tourist Police Division Chief Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong Ensarn said Jan. 12 that the web-based database system went online in November, allowing officers to make or look up reports, criminal history, immigration information and other data using a computer or mobile phone.

The secure website is available only to law enforcement and stores information on crimes, reports and other information. Although in use for only a short time, he said it has proved effective in numerous ways.
Piyapong said technology is making police work easier and suits today’s tech-savvy new officers. Police can access the online system from the field and even utilize face detection for CCTV feeds.
He said the system has a lot of potential and will help with investigations and storing documents.
