PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for residents in the northern, central, and upper southern regions to prepare for summer storms. These storms may bring thunderstorms, strong winds, and occasional lightning in some areas.

Causes and Impact of the Summer Storms

The current weather conditions are influenced by a moderate high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over northeastern Thailand and the South China Sea. This system has caused easterly and southeasterly winds to carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand over upper Thailand, leading to stormy weather in multiple areas.

Authorities advise people to avoid staying in open spaces, under large trees, or near unstable structures and billboards. Farmers are also urged to take preventive measures to protect their crops and livestock from potential damage.

Strong Winds and Rough Seas in the South

In the southern region, easterly and southeasterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea have strengthened, leading to increased rainfall and gusty winds in some areas. The lower Gulf of Thailand is experiencing waves of 1-2 meters, with higher waves exceeding 2 meters in storm-affected areas. Fishermen and boat operators are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.

Air Pollution and Haze Situation

The accumulation of dust and haze in the upper northern region remains at moderate to high levels due to weak to moderate winds. However, in the lower northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions, air pollution levels are lower due to occasional rainfall helping to clear the atmosphere.

Residents in affected areas are encouraged to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of unpredictable weather conditions.
