Heart-shaped cakes are going better than roses in Chanthaburi.
Rattikan Jumsat, 27, sells homemade cakes, brownies and other baked goods online and said Feb. 13 that, this year, her heart-shaped dessert is selling like, well, hotcakes.

One reason for the popularity of the custom cakes is the higher prices of roses this year. So lovers are looking for cheaper ways to convey their fillings. And, as the old saying goes, the best way to the heart is through the stomach.

Rattikan said she has gotten orders through her Facebook page from Chanthaburi and neighboring provinces.

Each cake is painstakingly decorated and customized with messages. Due to the time it takes to prepare and the backlog of orders, people had to order up to a week in advance.

The baker said she got the red velvet cake recipe from a YouTube video and customized it to her own. The soft red cake with cream cheese frosting has won her many fans.

Cakes sold for 119 baht for a palm-sized single serving to 259 baht for a half-sized cake and 459 baht for a full-size delight.

Customer Wipa Nakudom, 36, said she loves the taste and ordered one to surprise her partner.
