Hoping to prevent deadly accidents at the beach, Pattaya has installed warning signs telling parents to be sure their children wear life vests.
The “Life Jacket Must Be Worn” signs that went up along area beaches were funded by the National Institute for Emergency Medicine and the Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordination Centre. They advised also that parents watch children closely.
Previous holiday seasons in Pattaya have been marred by drownings by swimmers and those participating in maritime sports, such as jet skis and banana boats. The signs aim to raise awareness of the dangers for those who cannot swim.
The signs also forbid swimming after dark and provide phone numbers to call in case of emergency: NIEMS at 1669, the TMECC at 1696 and Pattaya Call Center at 1337.
