Island medical officials posted warning signs in three foreign languages after painful, but non-lethal, jellyfish appeared off Koh Larn.
The warnings in Chinese, English and Russian went up Aug. 18 after 200 people were stung by a jellyfish bloom at Bangsaen Beach. The crop of stingers appeared in Pattaya Bay days later.
One tourist reported being stung off Jomtien Beach Aug. 14.
Sarinrat Jeerattikul, head of the Public Health Service at Koh Larn Medical Center, said the jellyfish were an edible kind and non-lethal. However, the stings are still very painful.
Beach vendors were asked to prepare first aid kits and coordinate with hospitals to transport any serious cases.
Blooms of jellyfish – usually juveniles – are common this time of year. Some of the newly born animals are too small to be seen easily, but still pack a powerful punch.
