Seasonal churning of local waters is putting a damper on beach fun on Koh Larn.
Called “whale waste” in Thai, the phenomenon, which occurs every year as rainy season sets in, sees beach waters grow green and murky, often with a bad odor.
Vendors at Hat Yai Beach said on June 15 that the whale poo is covering a large swath of beach on Koh Larn, disappointing tourists who want to go swim.
The water looks and smells bad, but is not harmful, although those with open cuts are discouraged from going in the water.
