Rayong officials have determined that no environmental damage resulted from the breach of a disused wastewater-treatment reservoir at a Ban Khai paper mill.
Local officials joined an executive from the Thai Paper Mill Co. in Nong Bua Oct. 8 after reports that heavy rain had broken through walls of the natural pond that once served to capture factory wastewater.
Rayong officials are telling local residents that no environmental damage resulted from the breach of a disused wastewater-treatment reservoir.
Water from the company’s main pond had run off into the old pond, whose walls collapsed, flooding the surrounding area. Local residents feared the water was polluted.
Company manager Weera Sriratanaso said the old pond had been drained long ago and allowed to fill with rain and storm runoff. Therefore, when it breached, no pollutants were released.
A follow-up investigation will be organized to discuss how to prevent and solve future problems.
