Eaksuwat Chaisomboon, 31, was unconscious when paramedics arrived at the Central Road – Second Road intersection around 3 a.m. Jan. 27. He was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in a coma.

Motorcycle taxi driver Manot Duangta, 41, his foreign male passenger and a Thai woman riding pillion sustained minor injuries.

Manot said he was driving the couple back from Beach Road when the driver of the Bangkok-registered Yamaha Aerox, traveling at high speed against traffic, slammed into his Honda Dream Super Cup. The Aerox careened into a utility pole, critically injuring the wrong-way driver.
