Parents and caregivers were shown how to help autistic children care for themselves at a seminar in Nongprue.
Dr. Pavinee Teerakarunwong of Regional Health Promotion Center 3 in Chonburi led the July 21 workshop offering knowledge and therapy activities at the sub-district’s office.
The therapy training covered assessment of physical, psychological, learning, and developmental impairments, support and prevention, and rehabilitation to better care for themselves.
Training focused on activities to heighten autistic children’s sense of touch, sight and nervous system.
Touch activities included painting, walking on sand, grass, and mud without shoes, and molding clay. Sight perception tests included drawing lines in a narrow space, drawing by following dotted line, darts, playing ball, and riding a bike and swing.

Parents also were shown activities to heighten the nervous system through movement planning and using media.
By developing their hearing and sight, special-needs children can be able to play, learn and participate in social activities according to their age and possess proper movement development.
