When you visit to the Special Education Centre (SEC) in Bang Beung you cannot fail to be impressed by the devotion and care of the staff to make life that little bit easier for the children that attend this centre every day. There are 350 children registered with SEC that are autistic, have Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy and other debilitating ailments and many are in wheelchairs.

The children have fun whilst learning.

Fortunately, not all 350 children turn up at the same time for they adopt a totally flexible attitude at the centre and allow the parents to bring their children for a few hours, or a number of days per week but the overriding focus is education. Reading, writing, arithmetic and general knowledge aids are available, not least the most recent equipment paid for by The Billabong who are based around Mabprachan.

The older children are taught to weave various items, they have a mini zoo, an adventure room, Hippo Therapy are all available to the staff but a new system is now installed this is the second such program that has been donated by The Billabong. The first programme was such a success that The Billabong were happy to add another machine which enables the children to be involved and, dare I say it, have some fun whilst learning.

The contents are designed by the staff which is then projected to a screen which allows the children to answer simple questions and to change the projection with just a touch of a pen. The difficulty of the lesson can also be adjusted to suit the ability of the student and it can also be used through the internet for additional variations.

Kak and her staff are overjoyed with this new equipment and by taking advantage of 21st century technology, we are not only making learning more fun but we are making life a little easier for the staff.
