Hotel food and beverage employees across the region will compete for cash and fame in the Pattaya Bartender Competition Aug. 28.
The competition is not only for bartenders, though, as it actually offers contests in a broad range of F&B skills, from fruit carving to table setting to ice carving.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome and Thai Hotels Association Eastern Region President Bundarik Kusolvitya announced the event with Food & Beverage Association executives July 17 at Central Festival Pattaya Beach. To be held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, the competition this year is themed “Luk Thung Hi-So,” using the phrase with which Thais refer to high-society mixed-race Thais.
Woodlands Hotel & Resort’s bartender shows off his skills, accompanied by the hotel’s Miss Bartender, during the press conference announcing this year’s Pattaya Bartender Competition Aug. 28.
In line with its bartender moniker, the contest features the classic cocktails and “flair” mixing competition, and a “Ms. Bartender” contest for women. Other events cover “Roman high tea,” ice carving, wedding dinner table setup, wedding bouquet flower decoration, wedding cakes, and wedding cocktail/canapé fruit carving. Top prizes total up to 20,000 baht.
Bundarik noted the competition has been taking place for 20 years and has proved very popular, as well as successful in pushing F&B workers to improve their skills.
