Garden International School (GIS) celebrated the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s birth with golden tickets, a Dream Jar and lots of colourful characters.
Languages’ Prefect Narisa organised a day of events on September 13 to celebrate the famous children’s author, who wrote classics such as Matilda, BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In true Willy Wonka-style, a 1,000 chocolate bars were sold, and inside some were the famous golden tickets. Students who were lucky enough to get a golden ticket received Roald Dahl books as prizes.
Students also wrote down their wishes and dreams, then put them in a Dream Jar, similar to the one featured in BFG. The messages were later distributed randomly to other students. The chocolate sales raised 6,000 baht for one of the school’s chosen charities.
In Primary, students held a parade in the morning as they dressed up as Roald Dahl characters. At lunchtime, IB1 students (who also dressed up for the day) performed a special Roald Dahl-inspired dance at the canteen for other students.
GIS is based in Ban Chang near Pattaya.
