Jomtien’s popular Dongtang Beach is now a good deal more spick and span thanks to a clean-up operation by a team of kids and tots from Happy Home by Shelter Center Pattaya.
The clean-up crew of 25 children and 3 supervisors from the center hit the beach on Thursday 19th March in the morning and spent all day picking up litter. By the end of their stint, they had filled and hauled away several large sacks.
Dongtang Beach is now a good deal cleaner thanks to a team of kids and tots from Happy Home by Shelter Center Pattaya.
The event, which they named Happy Cleaning Day, was sponsored by Siam Secure, a Pattaya company that offers secure deposit box rentals.
The Shelter Center provides a safe environment and education for approx. 25 migrant worker children ages 3-13 yrs. The children are either orphaned, from dysfunctional homes, or are the offspring of illegal immigrants, and are thus unable to enjoy state schooling.
“Without places like the Shelter Center, these kids have very few chances in life and they face an extremely bleak future,” says by Nong, K.M.P. caretaker.
“We are a shoestring operation, run by just a handful of people with very limited resources,” she says. “We simply can’t help all the people that we’d like to, so these kids are lucky that we can offer them what we can. I know they really appreciate it.
“So we encourage them to show their appreciation and give something back to the community with events like this Happy Cleaning Day.”
The Shelter Center survives entirely on kindness and voluntary donations. If you would like to help in any way, or find out anything more about it, visit Sheltercenterpattaya Facebook page, or call 087 133 8282 for more info.
