Pattaya School No. 3 took third place at a classical music contest organized by the Lions Club of Pattaya-Taksin.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome presented the trophy and 6,000 baht to the Pattaya school Dec. 3 at Royal Garden Plaza. Chonburi schools Baan Pa-Yub School won first place and 10,000 baht while Sitkanet School won 8,000 baht for second place.
The contest for students 15 years and younger was organized in response to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s wish that Thai youths value Thai classical music so they can pass it down to the next generation.
Students play traditional Thai instruments for the contest.
Eleven schools in Pattaya and nearby areas competed in Piphat Mai, the classical-music ensemble of Thailand, which features wind and percussion using soft-mullets and integrates string instruments with one of His Majesty King’s compositions as a mandatory song.
