Pattaya installed garbage and recycling bins in five city schools to encourage students to separate their waste.

The environment department delivered the differently colored and labeled bins to Pattaya schools 1, 2, 3, 4 and 11 Nov. 27.

Each school received four types of cans: yellow for recycling, green for wet garbage, blue for general trash and red for hazardous waste.

More cans soon will be distributed to the other 11 public schools, Banglamung and Photisamphan Pittayakarn schools and area child development centers.

Pattaya hopes the new bins will promote participation in garbage separation at the source so students become aware of the importance of reducing garbage and pollution.
