The Chonburi Red Cross will provide free eye exams and glasses to poor and rural children July 17-21.
Red Cross Chairwoman Supaporn Thienchai announced May 18 that the society’s Eye Test Mobile Unit will roll across the province to assist youngsters with poor vision and no access to ophthalmologists and glasses. The unit is a specially outfitted bus with equipment to both test eyes and make glasses the same day.
She said children in rural areas face obstacles from a weaker economy, fewer eye doctors and quality optometry shops. Without proper vision, they face disadvantages in studies, learning and career opportunities.
Supaporn asked all the province’s schools to survey their student bodies and submit lists of students needing glasses by June 16.
