November 16 – 18 saw The Regent’s School Pattaya buzzing with activity as they played host to schools from all over Asia for the U15 FOBISSEA Games. Six schools competed – The Regent’s School Pattaya, ELC International School Malaysia, Harrow International School Beijing, Seoul Foreign School, The British School of Guangzhou and Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar.
The games commenced with swimming on the Friday morning with 49 heats, in which Seoul Foreign School came out victorious. After lunch the teams made their way to Rayong Athletics Stadium where the weather was on their side as they managed to escape the rain and get on with the track and field events. Here, Regents Pattaya came out on top.
Students found they needed stamina and strength to run the 1500m race.
Eager to get back into the games, the weekend saw students compete in football and basketball matches that demonstrated just how much hard work pays off; predominantly so for Regents Pattaya. The girls won both their Saturday football and their Sunday basketball tournaments.
The Regent’s Pattaya boys missed out only slightly as they walked away with gold after their basketball tournament on the Saturday, but lost out to ELC International School in the intense football final, where the victory was taken after extra time.
Despite the disappointment that might have been felt in the final football game, the amazing atmosphere carried over from visiting schools’ arrival didn’t wane. Students and staff alike, who had all worked hard to make sure the event ran smoothly, culminated at a gala dinner on Sunday where participants reveled in their achievements with great food, fantastic company, awards and a disco.
Dancing shoes had clearly been the footwear of choice for most; laughter and cheers became infectious as everyone danced late into the evening. It all wound down as everyone embraced Regents Pattaya’s host country by floating homemade ‘krathongs’ in the pool.
