Students from Garden International School (GIS) have been visiting a special school to help children who have mental disabilities.

For the past term students studying for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma from GIS have been helping out at a local school in Ban Chang.

The students may have some challenges, but this does not mean they are any less important than any of us; they are equally as human as any other person. There is but one difference, and that’s their unconditional love and appreciation for any and every person who offers to spend time with them. The IB students have visited many times over the past year and every time they arrive they the children are overjoyed to see them and give them a warm welcome.

Playing and making things is always a popular activity at the special school.

GIS students arrange to play fun activities, including colouring in, ‘duck-duck goose’, bowling and catch. It isn’t always easy for the children to follow instructions but they are always willing to try. They enjoy physical activities such as musical chairs and bowling and perhaps the most precious moment is their happiness when they are able to achieve something – it is truly elating when you realise that the students’ efforts have led to someone else’s accomplishment and happiness.
