Last weekend a group of St. Andrews KS4 and IB students took part in the first ever Model United Nations held by Harrow International School in Bangkok. They joined 200 students from 17 other international schools in Thailand and Singapore to negotiate, write, submit and debate resolutions on committees ranging from Human Rights, to Environment, to the Special Political and Decolonisation Committee. The topics for discussion were extremely relevant, for example: depletion of global water resources; deportation of refugees; and radicalisation of religion.

A group of KS4 and IB students took part in the first ever Model United Nations held by Harrow International School in Bangkok.

Three of our students, Ty, Pierre and Mild, were already experienced in MUN conferences, and were able to develop their skills and contributions further over the two days. For the other eight students, it was their first experience of MUN. They were certainly on a steep learning curve, learnt a whole new language and were confidently delivering speeches and answering Points of Information (that’s ‘questions’ outside the committee room) before the end of their first day.

Resolutions were passed, new friends were made, and a lot of fun was had too. Once again, in the words of United Nations, clapping is in order – well done to you all for your hard work and achievements.
