Nongprue students were given a lecture on the importance of Buddhism during a religion-promotion event at Sutthawat Temple.
Deputy Mayor Anak Pattanangam opened the March 2 lesson sponsored by the sub-district with monk and theology expert Charoenpong Papatsaro leading the proceedings.
Charoenpong led chanting, gave a Buddhist sermon and led the youths in a wien tien procession circling the temple’s sermon hall three times.
Nongprue organized the session to stress the importance of preserving Buddhist traditions and follow its teachings.
Buddhist doctrine aims to protect and solve life’s problems with the purpose of becoming free. It advocates avoiding sinful behavior, either physical, verbal or mental.
Anak said if youths follow Buddhist teachings, they will have an unburdened mind, be generous, disciplined and grow up to be good citizens.
