The YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya Center awarded 625,500 baht in scholarships as part of its Warm Family program.
Pattaya Deputy City Manager Sutham Petchket emceed the Dec. 1 ceremony at the Diana Garden Resort with YWCA Chairwoman Praichit Jetapai and Diana Group Managing Director Sopin Thappajug.
Praichit noted that the Warm Family program is now in its 28th year and annually provides scholarships to hundreds of poor Chonburi students with strong academic records.
This year 304 scholarships averaging 2,000 baht each were awarded to students in 50 schools and seven institutes of higher education. Included in those were Pattaya’s 11 public schools and 33 schools from the Chonburi Primary Education Services Area Office.
Among older students, eight from Pattaya Technical College, five from Sattahip Technical College, and one each from Kasetsart University Bangkaen Campus, Naresuan and Burapa University also received stipends.
Sasiwimol Pengboon, a sixth-grader at Wat Kaopho School, was one of many students who thanked her benefactors, promising she will pay attention in class, study hard and do good deeds for society.
