Baan Payamai residents took lessons in cooking and how to create herbal remedies to help them create products to sell to Southeast Asian tourists.
Natcha Kaowkrajang, advisor to the Association of Knowledge Development, led the March 10 culinary training course on Soi Mab 2 Nongyai. Baan Payamai is known as a very culturally themed village, made of wood, and is popular among Chinese tourists.
Recipes were also explained, of how basil leaves, mint leaves, lemons grass, lime leaves, ginger and other common herbs and flowers found locally can actually produce high-quality medicines.
Baan Payamai residents are taught how common local herbs can be used as medicine as well as liquid supplements.
The objective of the visit was to exchange experiences with residents and provide them cooking skills with an eye toward creating homemade products to sell to tourists from ASEAN Economic Community nations.
Traditional recipes were explained, including what goes in green curry with fish meatballs, sweet and sour serpent fish soup, tom yam freshwater prawns and Chao Wang-style chicken soup. A demonstration followed of how they are cooked.
Also, residents were taught how to make soaps, flower-scented lotion, handmade muscle balm, aromatic oil from flowers and perfumes.
The Association of Knowledge Development Pattaya intends to pass on skills to Pattaya residents so they can be passed down to following generations.
