Pattaya book stores have been doing brisk business since the passing of HM King Bhumibol as Thais scoop up biographies and tales of the late monarch’s public works.
At the Mahagree book shop, even fashion and home magazines that ran features or photos of His Majesty were selling out, as collectors were buying anything with HM the late King’s image in them.
Collector Kittima Rukissara said she is a big fan of women’s magazines. After the passing of HM King Bhumibol, most magazines published his photos, biography and images never seen before. She said she has bought most of them.
“We should keep them for our children and later generations to get to know him,” Kittima said of the late King. “Some magazines were hard to find,” but she got them. She vowed to keep buying as long as publishers kept publishing.
Mahagree owner Srisuda Rajniyom said some publishers raised prices for their royal issues because they printed on finer paper and with more color. Others simply added more advertising and kept cover prices the same.
Books, of course, also are selling well as they contain more history and photos than a single issue of a magazine, she said.
She said the store also is selling King Bhumibol calendars for 2017.
