In the last ten years or so Chile has managed to take a significant share of the wine market and has been readily embraced by wine lovers who opened up their minds to these new world wines. Now these wines, robust, flavorsome and well priced, have become a firm favorite.

It was therefore no surprise that the Chilean Casillero del Diablo wine dinner held at Bruno’s restaurant & bar on the 26th of November was a sell out occasion.

The evening was sponsored by Siam Winery Co., Ltd. Joining them was the wine maker for Casillero del Diablo, Marcelo Papa, who was finishing a short tour of Southeast Asia here in Thailand.

Before the festivities got underway, guests mingled in the bar and enjoyed a variety of tapas with some chilled Casillero del Diablo Sparkling Brut Chardonnay. The guests were then ushered into the dining room for an evening of culinary delight.

Marcelo Papa gave a brief yet warm introduction about the wines the guests would experience this evening after which they were served Tuna carpaccio, olives, and apple-capers, accompanied by the Casillero del Diablo 2013 Sauvignon Blanc.

This was followed by a delicious Crepe flavoured mushroom soup with the Casillero del Diablo Chardonnay 2013.

After a palate-cleansing sorbet the guests were given a choice of Sous Vide lamb loin or snowfish, which were well aired with the Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon 2013.

The best was kept till last, the Casillero del Diablo 2012 Merlot which in a brave move that paid off nicely was served with the blue cheese crème brulee.

The meal was rounded off with chocolate fondant.

The glasses for each course were generously poured and the option for a refill was given, thus at 2,800 baht for such a great meal with outstanding wines, it is no doubt that we will be seeing more Chilean Wines diners on the scene in Pattaya.
