The Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort began its holiday festivities early, lighting up a Christmas tree during a Buddhist merit-making ceremony.

Pattaya City Council Tourism and Sports Committee Chairman Rattanachai Sutidechanai and hotel General Manager Andre Brulhart flipped the switch on the decorated tree Dec. 7, with Father Ray Foundation President Peter Pattarapong Srivorakul in attendance.

The event also marked the resort’s third anniversary, with executives from the Father Ray Foundation and Melissa Cosgrove Children’s Foundation selling tree ornaments for charity. Guests could also have their picture taken with Santa Claus.

The resort, built around a “Lost World” theme, also inflated a giant King Kong between the hotel’s two towers, amusing guests and visitors. The 20-meter-tall gorilla will be on display through New Year’s.
