In May of this year a very successful ‘Braai’ was held by the Eastern Seaboard Group committee of the South African-Thai Chamber (SATCC) at the Outback Golf Bar near Lake Mabprachan.

So with a winning concept it was decided it was time to have another one, hence on Saturday the 19th of August over 150 guests came along to enjoy the mouthwatering delicacies.

The purpose of the event is to strengthen social and cultural ties between Thailand and South Africa, especially now with the emergence of the Eastern Economic Corridor.

In addition to Allan Riddell, consultant to the board, and Graham Macdonald of the SATCC Eastern Seaboard Group committee, the evening also welcomed its guest of honour, His Excellency Ambassador Geoffrey Doidge and his charming wife Carol who came down from Bangkok to support the event. They were joined by Counsellor Andre van Straten and SATCC Chairman Ragil Ratnam.

The Outback Bar, managed by Tawan and owner Andre Coetzee, has had some major refurbishments in the last few months which were completed just in time for the August Braai. This was complimented by a live band playing a variety of country style hits.

A number of chefs were manning the barbeques including the executive chef from the Amari Pattaya, Shaun Venter, and local entrepreneur Barnard Lamprecht and others. They served up marinated pork steaks, beef, succulent smoked chicken, lamb chops, pap & sous, pot bread, sausages, salad and African meat stew served from a potjie.

The Braai was a great success with cool beers and wines which were provided by Silverlake Winery, lively music and Boerewors and Biltong supplied by James Fortune.

The third braai this year will be held on Saturday 18th November.
