Sattahip Temple broke ground on its new Prapariyuttithamma learning building with community members coming together to donate 2 million baht for its construction.
Abbot Tatsaniyakunakorn, who also is the district’s dean of monks, was joined by top monks and nuns as well as local government leaders at the Aug. 25 laying of the center’s cornerstone.
Once complete, the multipurpose facility will be used for study of Prapariyuttithamma, Bali study, and Buddhist dharma.
After the ceremony, Patnamanee Bunbancherdsri, wife of the Sattahip mayor, and Laihua Ton, chairman of the temple’s layperson committee, presented donations of 1 million baht each raised from private organizations, business vendors and temple members.
Tatsaniyakunakorn said the learning center will rise three stories and cost about 14 million baht. It replaces a smaller building that lacked enough space for monks and novices to study.
Some of the funds will be raised through a sale of Luang Phu EI amulets and sacred objects Dec. 15.
