Despite its Cuban theme, the Havana Bar at the Holiday Inn was embracing wines from Australia for its latest wine tasting evening held on Saturday the 26th of September.

The Havana Bar is an ideal setting for these types of events with plenty of room for people to mingle, enjoy the snacks and discuss the wines on offer.

The focus on this occasion was two vineyards in Southern Australia: Sidewood & Outback Jack. The Semillon Sauvignon Blanc from Outback Jack is a classic, a vibrant blend made from two of Australia’s most famous grape varieties. These grapes are sourced from across South Eastern Australia, producing a wine which is great for outdoor entertaining and ideal to drink whist young and fresh.

Sidewood presented their Chardonnay Stable Hill Private Bin G with aromas of freshly picked peach, nashi pear, crisp green apple and passion fruit, and finished in Oak barrels for 5 months.

For the reds, Sidewood Syrah Stable Hill Private Bin G was presented with its aromas of rich fruit characters of succulent plum, blackberry and cinnamon spice, highlighted from 12 months spent in French oak that adds to their complexity. Guests also enjoyed the Sidewood Cabernet Sauvignon Stable Hill Private Bin G, with ripe fresh dark fruit characteristics.

Wine aficionado Michael Scollins and friend enjoy a glass or two.

Outback Jack featured two reds as well: Cabernet Merlot & their Shiraz Merlot. The latter of which is blended from selected South Eastern Australia grapes and ideal for BBQs and outdoor entertaining. While the Cabernet Merlot is soft yet full-bodied with rich, ripe flavours of plum, black currant and berry, ideal with roast beef or marinated veal.

The wines were perfectly balanced with delicious canapés, gorgonzola and brie, olives, avocado and tomato bruchetta, chicken pate, Mali chicken kathi rolls, Arabic lamb koftas, beef empanadas, and much more.

An enjoyable evening and all for 990 baht.
