PSC Golf from The Golf Club
Monday, Feb. 9, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford
1st Ken Aihara (5) 42pts
T2nd Peter LeNoury (11) 38pts
T2nd Dale Shier (14) 38pts
T4th Muffy Kerr (13) 37pts
T4th Alex Tregurtha (18) 37pts
High season numbers on the sign-up sheet still as a full booking of 36 golfers took on our regular Monday venue of Rayong Green Valley. Play was of an extremely high caliber as even putting in a card that shot to your handicap would not get you a place at the table. I guess the lads are in great form as the 4-day trip to Chiang Mai the previous week took the game up a notch.
Peter LeNoury, Kenny Aihara and Dale Shier.
A few of the greens were lightly sanded today but were not an issue as most found the course in great condition as usual.
Muffy Kerr and Alex Tregurtha both shot 37 points apiece, and both could have been a winner on any other week. Likewise for Dale Shier and Peter LeNoury, turning in a pair of very respectable 38’s on the card. But here he was again, Aihara-San, shooting his best round this year and taking the win with a whopping 42 points playing off 5. Any Asian Tour player would have been happy with that score. Nice going Kenny, another well deserved win for you buddy!
Wednesday, Feb. 11, Khao Kheow (yellow tees) – Stableford
1st Kenny Aihara (5) 39pts
T2nd John Horton (22) 35pts
T2nd Bob Mulholland (10) 35pts
This is such a popular course these days that it was unfortunate we could only get 5 tee times on Wednesday. The conditions here were just about perfect and the weather continues to be outstanding, with moderate temperatures and low humidity.
Kenny Aihara with Dave Mather and Dave Forster après-golf.
Visitors John Horton and Bob Mulholland did well, both scoring 35 points here today and that got them in the position to share a few of the handsome man vouchers that Phil had in his back pocket.
Once again the winner was Kenny Aihara, who is shooting lights out these days and beat the field by a solid 4 strokes. You remember that Ken won the Monthly Medal in January (his 3rd) and since then he has been unstoppable. Would he make it 3 for 3 and get the hat trick on Friday?
Friday, Feb. 13, Greenwood (white tees) – Stableford
1st Kenny Aihara (5) 35pts
T2nd Dave Mather (8) 34pts
T2nd David Forster (14) 34pts
The answer was yes, he did make it 3 for 3 on Friday. You never know how the old game is going and on Friday the 13th, just about anything can happen. This day turned out to be a good one for Kenny (again) but this time he squeezed out a win by just one point. When you’re hot you’re hot, as the saying goes, and right now nobody is hotter than Kenny Aihara, even on Friday the 13th.
Green Valley caddies with Dave Ferris.
Strong Ryder Cupper Dave Mather could muster only 34 points to tie for second place with Dave Forster to round off the podium slots this week.
We must also say thank you and goodbye to TGC supporter Thierry Danzas who has been playing with us regularly every Monday during his stint here at the Pullman Hotel. Thierry is now moving on to Yangon, Myanmar and we wish him all the best of luck there.
Update: Heartfelt thanks to Phil Smedley and David Ferris for collecting 3 more caddies and bringing them to Dental Smile for fillings and check-ups as part of the ongoing Caddy Smile program. Thailand is the Land of Smiles and The Golf Club is the Home of Golf so what better pairing than to give local caddies an improved lifestyle by helping them with their dental issues. These ladies are all caddies from Rayong Green Valley and, thanks to the contributions from our patrons they will all get a clean bill of health from the dentist.
Thanks to all who joined us for another week of perfect golf in paradise.
