PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, Nov. 12, Green Valley (White tees) – Stableford

1st Phil Smedley (12) 42pts

2nd Jay Burns (1) 39pts

2nd Brad Sproxton (13) 39pts

2nd Martin Zimmerman (15) 39pts

Another big turnout for our Monday fixture of Green Valley took us through the wind and rain of Pattaya to a damp but playable course.  What’s the deal with this rain?  This is not supposed to happen in November, honestly.  It is the most rain I have seen in 12 years and it’s high time someone did something about it.

Fortunately, the courses here drain well so play can resume fairly quickly.  Phil Smedley was glad that it did as his scorecard revealed a chart topping 42 points, one of his best rounds of the year.

Ken Aihara, Mika Manninen, Ed Banbaker and Jay Burns. Ken Aihara, Mika Manninen, Ed Banbaker and Jay Burns.

Smedders was 3 points clear of a trio of runner ups, namely Jay Burns, Brad Sproxton and Martin Zimmerman, all fine golfers to beat and all shooting 39 points.  Dare I say it? Zimmerman was in the frame once again.  The “Deadly Smedley” got away with another great win for our Golf Captain extraordinaire, well played mate!

Wednesday, Nov. 14, Pattana A & C (White tees) – Stableford.

1st Jay Burns (1) 36pts

1st Ed Banbaker (13) 36pts

3rd Ken Aihara (5) 33pts

4th Mika Manninen (5) 32pts

This is probably the most improved course of 2012 and every time we play here there are more converts to the charms of Pattana.  There are 27 holes here that offer a fair test of golf in some beautiful countryside.  The clubhouse facilities are absolutely the best that the Pattaya area has to offer, and it is a sprawling sports complex is one of the best in Thailand.  Yes, it’s a bit out of the way, but well worth the extra time and effort once you are here.

The course was in very good condition, but to be honest the greens on the A side were not cut quite the same as the C greens, which were slower.  Maybe we were playing in between the cut cycle but it took some getting used to.

On to the golf, Jay Burns hit the headlines one more time before he set off back to Atlanta, Georgia and finished on a high note indeed.  Jay is a steady player and off a 1 handicap, his points are made the old fashioned way- he earns them.  Jay shared the win with Ed who also shot his handicap at 36 Stableford points with a couple of 5 handicappers bringing up the rear.

Our Japanese buddy Ken Aihara was on the podium yet again with 33 points and newbie Mika Manninen from Finland rounded off the top scorers with a 32 on the card.  It was nice to see such an international stable of great golfers join us at The Golf Club, and thanks to all who participated.

Note:  The Golf Club is located on Soi LK Metro and the group usually plays golf on Monday, Wednesday and Friday so come join us for a seriously fun day out.  Just call 085 434 3377 or see our website www.golfclubpattaya.com  and for more information mail us: [email protected] and see updates at www.facebook.com/golfclubpattaya.
