Merle Humphreys & Eddy Beilby.
Merle Humphreys whose accomplishments have been lauded in this column numerous times made another marked move on his handicap to top B Flight and pick up the man of the match honours with a scintillating 41 points. His effort overshadowed the fine 40 points from his B Flight friend Phil ‘the Welsh wonder’ Davies. Aussie star Nick Odnoral, with head bent, accepted the bronze on 28 points.
The inform belle of the bar, Wira Siduang, was atop of the A Flight podium with a fine 37 points while ‘Nice Guy’ Yves Moutier took second with a solid even par round and Peter ‘the right honourable’ LeNoury closed the flight podium on 33 points.
A count back was required in C Flight to separate Eddy ‘the eagle’ Beilby and Hogens, both with 37 points, but Eddy used all his guile and treachery to acquire the gold. Wira’s son, Wirut Siduang, was left to tidy up the flight in third.
Monday, July 27, Greenwood – Stableford
1st Wirut Siduang (21) 33pts
2nd Jeffrey Horsfield (12) 33pts
3rd Mike Jeffreys (15) 32pts
The Lewiinski’s mob travelled up the 366 to play the always tough Greenwood course and found it in fine condition. Wirut Sinding and Jeffrey Horsfield were co-men of the match with 33 points each but Wirut took the top podium spot courtesy of a better disrupted back-nine.
The calculator was out again as Mike the ‘Welsh dragon’ Jeffreys and the belle of the bar Wira Siduang were knotted on 32 points – Mike showing no chivalry in the count back as he edged Wirut off the podium.
Wednesday, July 29, Parichat – Stableford
1st Connie Walsh (11) 33pts
2nd Merle Humphreys (19) 29pts
3rd Brian Byrne (16) 24pts
A trip to the latest addition to the Pattaya golfing scene, Parichat, was the challenge today. The course itself, to be fair, was not that bad for its age; the greens need a little more time to settle in, the caddies learning a little English would help, and a cart is also a must.
Irishman Connie Walsh was the man of the match with 33 points today and was four clear of the man in the bold print, Merle ‘the swirl’ Humphreys. Closing the flight was Brian Byrne on 24 points but he did need the aid of a count back verdict as he edged Peter ‘the silver surfer’ off the podium steps.
Friday, July 31, Plutaluang N & W – Stableford
1st Merle Humphreys (19) 36pts
2nd Peter Henshaw (25) 34pts
3rd Connie Walsh (11) 33pts
Merle Humphreys finished the week as he started it by standing on the top of the podium with 36 points. He sailed round Plutaluang Navy course with a steady even par round and made his third pay window visit of the week.
Merle was two clear of Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw, who picked up the silver, and Connie Walsh with 33 points in the bronze position.
