Sunday, March 6, Green Valley – Stableford

We had a slightly smaller group out today for our regular Sunday game at Green Valley but still enough for two flights.  The course is beginning to show signs of wear and tear, maybe it is the lack of water this year and there are a lot of bare spots on some of the fairways, but it is still very enjoyable to play.

Again today the scoring wasn’t great and George Cullen won the A Flight with thirty five points, one ahead of Declan Kelly in second.  We then had two players on thirty one with Kevin Blake getting the benefit of the count back to come third and beating his friend Russell Gilroy in the process.

George Pearson.

In the B Flight we had the best score of the day and the only player to beat his handicap, this being George Pearson who won with thirty seven points.  Dan Hobbs won a count back to come second with thirty points and he also got the only ‘2’ of the day.  He told me this was the first time ever he had a ‘2’ with us and he picked the right day to do it as he didn’t have to share it with anyone else, which is unusual for a Sunday.

After winning the previous Sunday, today Ted Murphy had to settle for third place on thirty points after edging Joe Peters into fourth on count back.

A Flight

1st George Cullen (11) 35pts

2nd Declan Kelly (12) 34pts

3rd Kevin Blake (7) 31pts

4th Russell Gilroy (18) 31pts

B Flight

1st George Pearson (21) 37pts

2nd Dan Hobbs (23) 30pts

3rd Ted Murphy (24) 30pts

4th Joe Peters (19) 30pts

Tuesday, March 8, Laem Chabang – Stableford

Today we were back in Laem Chabang after being rained off here a few weeks previously and, before they expired, we were using the rain checks given very generously by the LC management.

George Cullen.

We played the B and C nines today for a change.  George Cullen is definitely on form these days and he won again, this time with thirty five points.  John Fenwick came second with thirty four after beating Joe McArdle on a count back and Kevin Blake took fourth spot with thirty three.  We then had three players on thirty one and on the count back Joe Peters took fifth place and Declan Kelly sixth, leaving Frank McGowan out of the prizes today.

We had no ‘2’s today.

1st George Cullen (11) 35pts

2nd John Fenwick (20) 34pts

3rd Joe McArdle (14) 34pts

4th Kevin Blake (7) 33pts

5th Joe Peters (19) 31pts

6th Declan Kelly (12) 31pts

On Thursday we joined up with the PFGS and Gerry’s Bar on Pratumnak to play in the Free Drop Cup, which is a traditional St Patrick’s Day comp.  It is a four-ball better-ball and this year was played at Khao Kheow.  The best any of our players could do was come third, this being Kevin Blake and Russell Gilroy who had thirty five points each

Note: The Tara Court Golf Group play every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, leaving O’Gara’s Bar and Restaurant in the Tara Court on Pratamnak Rd. around 10.00 a.m.  Sign up either in O’Gara’s or ring Joe on 089 249 1364.
