Monday, Feb. 2, The Emerald – Stableford

Monday was a game at Emerald for the first time in ages and the course was in grand condition with surprisingly fast greens, but it was also very busy which made for a long day at the office.

The scores went down to fourth place with Alan Bartlett getting the nod for that spot on 28 points.  Coming in third was Brian Maddox with 29 and second went to Wayne Cotterell with 32, but taking line honours on the day was John Locke with 34.

There were no ‘2’s but that is not surprising as Emerald doesn’t give those away very easy, the par-3’s here must be as hard as they get anywhere in the area.

Wednesday, Feb. 4, Green Valley – Stableford

We were away a little at Green Valley, our usual venue for Wednesday, and managed to get around in less than four hours.  I don’t know what the greens staff did to the greens here but they were like lightening, talk about fast.  The course was in great condition and despite the amount of daily play it is holding up fantastically well.

We had ten groups playing and by our 9.30 tee time we had 5 groups away.  The scores weren’t that great, usually somewhere in the 40’s is the score to beat but not today.  We had a four-way count back on 38 points for the top four places and a two-way count back for fifth and sixth on 37.  Top of the stack was Vic Woolton with a great 23 points on the back nine to finish ahead of Greig Ritchie (19), John Player (14) and Freddy Starbeck (13) in that order.

Sel Wegner was edged into sixth spot by his good mate Colin Goon over form Melbourne for a couple of weeks.

There were again no ‘2’s, which is surprising for this course.
