Twenty-five golfers put names down to have a crack at Emerald and all the reports indicated the course was in very good condition. Attacking the layout from the blue tees certainly upset a few but we have to be fair to all and we always play off the shorter tees on Thursday.
A Flight saw Keith Buchanan, not being daunted by the colour of the tee box, having a good day out and he greeted the judges with an excellent score of 37 points. Second past the post was ‘Buffalo’ Bill Steinmann, closely followed in third by ‘The Judge’ Eric Black.
The girls came to the fore in B Flight, with Lorraine Percy taking first with a good score of 31 points. She was followed by Kae Dayton in second, with Allan Nolan taking third place and keeping Roger Ellis out via the count-back system.

With a couple of late withdrawals we ended up with a field of 18 golfers all ready to make their way to Greenwood for today’s game. We played C & A nines (in that order) from the yellow tees.
Conditions were perfect, not too hot and a slight breeze. The course was in perfect condition as it always is, fairways mowed, bunkers raked and the greens were running true. With Bt. 700 green fee the day was set for what could be some good scores.
John Anderson continued his good form, following 2 wins in a row, and handed in a card with an excellent score of 40 points. Second was Paul Smith following on from his monthly mug win, while third and fourth went to the count-back with Colm Mullen getting the nod over the unlucky Pierre Cere.
