PSC Golf from Tropical Golf Group
Tuesday, Feb. 27, Treasure Hill – Stableford
So off we went once again to Treasure Hill where they offer a great high season rate of 1250 baht for green fee/caddy fee and cart. Most of the players know this course well and on the day it was in first class condition, but as always still a hard test of golf.
While the scribe was having a problem with the numerous trees and hazards, many of the others were having a better time of it. In the A Flight, 0 to 18, the winner was Landis Brooks with 38 points on count-back over Rob Brown in second. In third was Derek Neufeld with 35 points with Richard Kubicki taking fourth with 34.
In the B Flight, 19 up, the winner with the best score of the day was John Anderson with 41 points ahead of Carole Kubicki in second with 39. We then had a count-back on 32 points that saw Gordon Clegg in third and Colm Mullen fourth.
The ‘best nines’ for non-winners came from John Davis (front) with 17 points and Derek Brook (back) with 19.
Friday, March 2, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
Our first visit to Mountain Shadow since early January and the original start list of 22 ended up at 19 due to injuries and illness. All arrived in good order and the first group was actually off the first tee a few minutes early.
With open fairways in front all the groups made the turn to the 10th in just over 2 hours. The course was in very good condition but with punishing rough. Perhaps this and the warming temperatures slowed play on the back nine a bit but all in all a great day out on a tough course.
Round over, and, due to the early start, we avoided the usual Friday afternoon truck traffic and all were back at BJ’s for the results and presentation. Interesting to note that, as seems the norm at Mountain Shadow, players do not play to their handicaps very often and that held true on this day with 35 points topping each flight.
In A flight, 0 – 18, John Hackett (18) at 35 points took the top spot followed closely by Paul Weatherley (18) with 34 and Kei Kasami (6) 33.
Topping B flight was the steadily improving Karen Brown (33) with 35 points, followed by Carole Kubicki (23) and Joe Sparwirth (27) at 31 points, with Carole edging Joe on the count-back.
Taking the consolation prizes for non-winners were Rob Brown (best front nine) and John Davis (back nine).
