PSC golf from Tropical Bert’s

Tuesday, March 26, Royal Lakeside – Stableford

This is a long way to go for a game of golf, but every now and then we slip it in to the schedule.  There are one or two ‘elderly’ drivers who do not like going to this course; the drive there is fine, but driving back after a game of golf can be very tiring.  So we ‘Goldies’ went in the mini bus.

A quick book in saw us in the fine changing room and onto the first tee, where we were surprised to see we were off to an early start, and underway into a strong wind.  The course has been worked on of late and several holes have been modified.  The changes to the layout have made it a bit more difficult, but they were needed and they make this into a tough course to play.

The fairways were in good condition today, if a bit dry, and the greens were fast and also very tricky in places.  All in all, the course was in good condition, but on this day with a strong wind it proved to be a very tough test.  The rough was also dry and at times also hard to get out of.

The changing room is a good place to relax and here it is a top class one.  Soon it was into the restaurant where the food was good and reasonably priced.  Then into the transport, and being in the mini bus it has to be said that a really quiet trip back took place.  I think it so, as I was practicing closing my eyes.  Best way to travel.

Back at Bert’s it was soon time for the presentation, and as this was the day for the ‘MBMG Group Golfer of the Month’ the results would determine the winner.

In the A Flight, 0 to 14, the winner was Doug Maiko with 39 points ahead of Landis Brooks with 38 points in second and Steve Hamstad in third with 37.  In the B Flight we had some really good scores.  The winner was Andre Van Dyk with 41 points ahead of a count back on 40 points that saw Dick Warberg in second and Steve Compton in third.

When the points for the month were added up we found that the winner of the ‘MBMG Golfer of the Month’ was Andre Van Dyk.  His win was the final nail in the coffin for the other players in the running.  Well done Andre!

Friday, March 29, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

Friday is normally the day we go to one of the ‘lesser’ courses, to try to balance the week out.  However on this day we elected to go to this place because not only is it close to Pattaya, but it is also reasonably priced and is a good course.  Naturally opinion varies as it does with all courses, but we usually get a good turnout.

Today we had a decent turnout, and the group were soon booked in and on the first tee.  The weather was hot but a breeze and a bit of cloud cover made the day quite comfortable.  The course was in good condition but the greens were a bit slower than others we have played on of late.

Play was a bit on the slow side as our 4-ball groups followed other 5-balls and the round took all of 4 hours and 45 minutes, then we were into the changing room and then out into the restaurant.  A quick bite to eat and then back into transport saw us back at Bert’s in good time.

The winner on the day was Dick Warberg with 42 points ahead of Andre Van Dyk with 39 points.  We then had a count back on 36 points that saw Brian Parish in third and Landis Brooks in fourth.  Then it was time for a couple of cold ones.  T.T.F.N.
