Wednesday, Feb. 14, Green Valley – Stableford
Romance was in the air today particularly for the 20 ladies that were dressed to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Miss Phaeng had another reason to celebrate today for it was her 21st wedding anniversary to Bob Van Mol and she took fourth place with 35 points, losing to Miss Ooh on the last 6 holes. Miss Da, with 22 points on the back nine, came second with 37 points overall but well behind Miss Ann who had a very up and down day but still managed 41 points to win the day.
There was a ‘never seen before’ situation in the men’s competition with four players on 39 points. Auke Engelkes, whose engine has been running hot recently, stumbled on the last 6 holes and subsequently lost out to William Macey for third, both with 16 on the way home. Brian Orr had 17 on the back nine, just one less than Jeff North for the top spot.
Miss Som almost had a hole in one but an easy birdie to accompany her husband, Kevin Wild, Selwyn Wegner and Brian Orr for the 2s.
Friday, Feb. 16, Burapha – Stableford
It was a busy day at Burapha but the round was quite fast with no holdups we had just under a 4 hour round. The course was in fantastic condition with fast greens and lush fairways but was it hot out there,
The scoring wasn’t too good with a count-back on 35 points to fill the minor places. Auke Engelkes took fourth, Rick Culley was third and John Anderson second. Our friend the little Frenchman occupied the top spot with 37 points and that would have to be the lowest score to take a win at Burapha in a long time.
There were two 2s, coming from George Way and his good mate Brian Orr.
