Monday, Nov. 30, Green Valley (white tees) – Monthly Medal

1st Peter LeNoury (11) net 68

2nd Sean Hastings (18) net 69

3rd Mike Omiya (7) net 72

4th Kevin Hamilton (15) net 73

5th Kenny Aihara (3) net 73

A good turnout for the medal this month saw 32 of the lads trying to capture the crown for November.  There always seems to be a place in the wardrobe for another Antigua shirt!

Peter LeNoury.

The weather was great and the condition of the course was excellent as we started 5 minutes earlier than our 9:27 assigned time.

The game was afoot as locals, regulars and tourists took to the challenge.  73 was the minimum required for a podium finish and previous winners Kenny Aihara (4 stars) and the winner 2 months back Kevin Hamilton saddled in at the net 73 mark.  One better was visiting Mike Omiya on 72, with Sean Hastings turning in a proud 69 on the card.

With a double bogey on the 9th and a triple bogey (!) on the 18th, it was a bad finish for Peter LeNoury.  What a shame to throw it all away on the last hole, but in fact the hard work was already done.  Turning in a score of a net 68, Peter took another medal comp and an Antigua TGC shirt with two stars.  It was January of 2010 when Pete last won our medal comp.  I cannot believe it has taken him just shy of 5 years to get that second star but the numbers do not lie.  Nice shootin’ Pete!

Wednesday, Dec. 2, The Emerald (white tees) – Stableford

1st Alan Rothwell (6) 40pts

T2nd Barry Murnin (20) 34pts

T2nd Kenny Aihara (3) 34pts

T2nd Peter Thomas (18) 34pts

Is this a Nick Faldo designed golf course?  Well, that question was asked by my mate Mike Bridge from The Pattaya Golfer magazine last week in Vietnam to none other than the man himself.  Mike had a sit down with Mr. Faldo and I suggested he mention both the Emerald and Pattavia (ex- Century Chonburi), were they designed by Faldo?

Sir Nick honestly did not remember being directly involved with either project but said it was entirely possible as he was in his heyday and putting his name on numerous projects around the world that his team undertook at the time.  So there you have it, right from the horse’s mouth as it were.  If someone were waving a large check in front of me it certainly would be hard to say no.  In any event, the Faldo – Muirhead team did a lovely design job at The Emerald.

It has been ages since we played The Emerald, but judging by the positive comments after the round it looks like it will be back on the roster.  The fabulous greens were the main topic of conversation back in the bar and the fairways, while not as good, were still acceptable.  A few newbies noted how beautiful the collection of par-3’s were… something we locals have known for a long time.

Today we saw a great round from the consistent Alan Rothwell as his 40 points blew away the field by 6 strokes.  It was another fine round from the Mayor of New York.

Friday, Dec. 4, Khao Kheow (white tees) – Stableford

1st Mark Wood (9) 38pts

T2nd Alan Rothwell (6) 35pts

T2nd Kenny Aihara (3) 35pts

T2nd Michael Otterman (18) 35pts

It’s getting to be just like the old days as more and more guys keep pouring in to spend the winter in Pattaya.  With the rains finally coming to an end and the temperatures getting cooler, the next few months are the ones we all look forward to.

Friday’s top four: Kenny Aihara, Alan Rothwell, Mark Wood and Michael Otterman.

There was a bit of a long trip back from Khao Kheow as Sukhumvit was a mess with all the Bangkok traffic coming to town for the 3-day King’s Birthday and Fathers Day celebrations over the weekend.

A trio of golfers on the second place spot made for a crowded podium at the 35-point mark as Alan, Kenny and Michael all shared the glory.  Fresh off the plane, Mark Wood once again hit the ground running and had no trouble showing the boys how it was done for the day’s win.

It is good to see so many familiar faces back in town and thanks to all who joined up with us this week at The Golf Club.
