PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, August 4, Burapha – Stableford
20 players here at Burapha this week on the C & D nines but only eighteen of them played in the comp as Mike and Peter did not have handicaps, not that they let that prevent them from enjoying their day.
Two others who would have enjoyed their day were Tim Knight and Keith Dyson who scored 43 and 41 points respectively to fill the top two places in Div B, well clear of the third placed man, Ken Young on 32.
The Outback golfers gather for a group photo following the Barry Chadbourn memorial tournament.
Div A went to Jim Brackett on 38pts followed home by John Low (36), who beat Bob Finley on count back.
There were two ‘2’s, both on D2 from Russell Hall and Dennis Pelly

Wednesday, August 6, Laem Chabang – Stableford
With a major event at Pattaya Country Club today, three groups played the A & B nines at the lovely Laem Chabang course, which continues to offer great value for money with its reduced green fee during renovations to the clubhouse facilities.
Tim & Alfie with Wednesday’s NAGA prize – an awful bowl of plastic fruit all the way from Spain.
Welcome to Thierry Temime, Jim Dundon and Steve Wood and welcome back also to Mike Omiya.
Kiwi John, who has been in fine form during his annual tour here in Thailand, showed no let up as he won the day with 41pts from travelling companion, Geoff Christie with 37. Thierry took third beating Jim Dundon on count back, both on 32.
There were two ‘2’s from John Low (A2) and Thierry Temime (B5)

Wednesday, August 6, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford
It was just a year ago (4th August) that Barry Chadbourn aka ‘Chad’ lost his final battle and passed away just four days short of his 71st birthday. Chad was a long standing Outbacker and a member of Pattaya Country Club where he play golf three days a week for the last few years. He was well known by the clubhouse staff and many of the caddies, particularly Wan who was his regular caddy for over four years.
So it was fitting that some 40 of his friends (including one caddy) played today in his memory at Pattaya Country Club. John Lawton – who had been friends with Chad for over 15 years – and General Jack, ably assisted by Pottsy decided that today would be a ‘fun’ day – to which Trudy Chadbourn agreed that is what Chad would have wanted. So it was!
The format was a 2-person scramble (Ambrose for the Aussies!) with placing through the green and drop in hazards, and four near pins donated by Outback
Many began the day with breakfast at the Outback with Trudy and then it was off to PCC where we received the usual warm welcome from the staff and of course the caddies.
On to the first tee where Trudy and Chad’s caddy Wan dispensed beer and rolls kindly donated by Trudy, John, Suzy, Jack and others, to all. After the last group had teed off they continued round the course much to the appreciation of all.
It was then back to the bar for a few drinks and the results with the winning pair being John Aylott and Vic Warren, who both play PCC regularly which proved an advantage today as they came in with fine 63.5! Second were Wayne & Eng Cotterell (63.75) and third, Rosco and Graham Woollett (65).
There was a very special NAGA prize for the pair who came last.
Nigel went on to thank the day’s organisers, particularly Suzy and Tim on behalf of the players and then called for all to raise a glass to ‘Absent Friends’. At the end of the day we all had a good time in memory of our good friend Chad – gone but not forgotten.
1st John Aylott & Vic Warren (8.5) 63.5
2nd Wayne Cotterell & Eng Cotterell (8.25) 63.75
3rd Rosco & Graham Woollett (8) 65
4th Steve Durey & Nial Glover (7.75) 68.25
5th Kerry Beck & Sugar Ray Handford (8.25) 68.75
6th Jack Moseley & Bob Mattes (10.75) 69.25
Friday, August 8, Green Valley – Medal
An excellent turnout of 38 for the August monthly medal played at the usual Friday venue, Green Valley, in very pleasant and cool conditions for a change. For some reason or other, the course played three shots tougher than last week, when the CSR was 69, this week being at level par, 72.
We were joined today by visitors John Leonard and Beau Mete, both of whom featured on the podium, sharing sixth place with 73. Paul Greenaway, who is recovering from a damaged knee and was unusually seen in a cart, proved that he is not too far away from being fit again as he scored a gross 79 (71 net) to share third place with John Fitzgerald and Bruce McAdam.
Jim Brackett, who was scheduled to go out in group three, nearly didn’t get here at all as his good friend, driver and playing companion managed to get lost on the way to the course; not bad for someone who has been playing here for as far back as I can remember. Nevertheless, none of that phased Jim, as he went on to take the Low Gross Medal with 77, beating Rick Evans by one, and with taking second place overall with a net 69.
Dennis Pelly recorded the best round of the day, a net 67 playing off 12 and will surely see his handicap start to come down, with his current vein of form.
There five ‘2’s from Greg Hill (3rd), Dennis Pelly (5th), Paul Greenaway (12th) and Rick Evans & Ken Hole (16th).
1st Dennis Pelly (12) net 67
2nd Jim Brackett (8) net 69
3rd John Fitzgerald (19) net 71
3rd Paul Greenaway (8) net 71
3rd Bruce McAdam (27) net 71
6th John Leonard (19) net 73
6th Beau Mete (22) net 73
