Just like the original Mike Baldwin (Of Coronation Street fame), our Richard Baldwin insists on having the last word. The only player to play to his handicap today, Tuesday, March 19, Richard returned a fine 36 points to win by one from Peter Harris (35 points), the other in form player at present. In third place was Sergio Poggi, also with 35 points but his back nine score was inferior to Peter’s.
Mukesh Thakker managed 33 points even though in his own words, “I played rubbish”. However, there was not enough money in the pot to give provide a fourth place on the podium.

Most players today suffered the fate of low scoring and this was mainly due to the fast, difficult, but very true greens at Phoenix. Three putting is very common on our greens. However, it has to be said that the course is in great shape and it is truly a pleasure to play.
With the high season well and truly over now, we enjoy reasonably clear, quick rounds of golf with no hassle from the pesky tourists! Couple that with returning to our favourite restaurant to enjoy a beer or two – life is great here in fun city!
Justice prevailed for Mukesh Thakker, as with one near pin not won his name came out of the hat as a lucky draw prize winner. Other near pins went to Sergio Poggi, Richard Baldwin & Peter Harris.
The lucky draw prizes (donated by our hosts The Relax Bar) went to Stuart Gordon (free massage), Tom Musial (free drink) and Joris Goetschalckx (50 baht).
Shot of the day went to Stuart Gordon who hit two superb shots on the par-five 18th that left him with just a sand iron to get on the green in three (this was after the opposition had all missed the green in 3). Stuart thinned his third shot which hit the cart direction sign and rebounded back to where he had hit from. Needless to say his next shot went sailing way over the green and that was him out of the hole. Cost him and his partner a double or nothing bet. Luckily I was not his partner!
From 1st April the guest rate at Phoenix will be 800 baht green fee on Tuesday’s and 1,000 baht on Friday’s. Anyone interested in joining our little group (or sea fishing trips), please call me on 087 091 7565.
