Tuesday, Nov. 26, Eastern Star – Stableford

Today was the last Tuesday of the month, hence the Trattoria Italiana voucher being up for grabs and it was Richard Baldwin who tamed the fairways of Eastern Star to take the winner’s place on the podium.

Since our group started boycotting Phoenix until we get a better deal from the new owners, our overall scores have reduced drastically, which shows how one can get used to playing the same course all the while.  Richard won with a mere 33 points today, with yours truly second on 31 and John Bartley third with only 29.

Near pins went to Richard Baldwin (2), Steve Gibson and the fourth near pin was not won and went into a lucky draw and Patrick Browne’s name duly came out of the hat.

Other lucky draw winners (prizes donated by our hosts The Relax Bar) went to Stefan Chanton (free massage), Bob Neylon (free drink) and Wolfram Krueger (50 baht).

Eastern Star is not too bad a golf course but the fairways were very wet after much recent rain.

Friday, Nov. 29, The Emerald – Stableford

On Friday we travelled to Emerald Golf Club and this course is possibly one of the best designed in the area but the overall condition is not too good.  The fairways are very patchy with far too much cow grass and the greens are untidy (for want of a better word) with many worm casts on them.

Today the declared winner was myself, Mike Gerrard, but on checking after everyone had gone home it appeared there was a mistake with my score and I duly disqualified myself, leaving Steve Gibson as the winner with 32 points and in a revised second place was Stefan Shanton, also with 32.

Near pins went to Stefan Shanton (2), Mike Gerrard and the fourth one which no one won was drawn out of the lucky draw by Stefan Shanton.  Other lucky draw prizes went to Colin Gregg and Peter Harris.

A quick update:  In the ongoing dispute with the new owners of Phoenix, the Members Action Group legal team has now been given the backing of the Consumer Protection Board of Thailand and hopefully the disputed pricing may be resolved within the near future.
